Excerpt from Leah Garchik's column in the SF Chronicle

January 5, 2011 - ... Jon Funabiki's 8-year-old granddaughter was in the Alameda Civic Ballet's production of "Nutcracker." As a proud grandparent, he says that it was wonderful, greatly expanded from years past, when only scenes from the ballet were presented, "featuring a combination of professionals and students of all ages." A troop of Boy Scouts played soldiers.

During a Dec. 18 performance, says Funabiki, in the middle of a sequence involving bonbons and petit fours, the music suddenly went silent. During this technical glitch, "all the dancers, including the kids, continued without a pause or missed beat. The only thing you could hear was the sound of ballet slippers tapping the floor, in time." They finished to great applause, and the music was fixed by the next scene.

May all your 2011 glitches be so bravely met and quickly conquered.
